How it works

Step by step: the perfect sauna session

A few simple rules make all the difference – for relaxation, for your circulation and for a good night’s sleep.

  1. Prepare

Don’t go in on an empty or a full stomach – ideally 1–2 hours after a light meal. Take off jewellery, your watch and glasses.

  2. Shower and dry off

Take a warm shower first and dry yourself thoroughly: dry skin starts sweating sooner.

  3. Sweat

8–15 minutes per round. Lie down or sit with your feet up so your whole body warms evenly. Listen to your body and leave as soon as you feel uncomfortable. Sit upright for the last 1–2 minutes so your circulation can adjust.

  4. Cool down

First a few minutes of fresh air – your terrace with mountain views is perfect for this. Then a cold shower in the bathroom, always starting at the feet and moving towards the heart.

  5. Rest

Lie down for at least 15–20 minutes, wrap up warmly and let your body come to rest.

  6. Repeat

2–3 rounds are ideal. Drink water or herbal tea between rounds and afterwards – no alcohol.

Etiquette

The little sauna etiquette

Even in your own private sauna, a few classic rules keep it hygienic, safe and pleasant – for you and for the next guests.

  • A towel under your whole body – including your feet. No sweat on the wood.
  • This is a nude sauna: no swimwear – but always with a towel underneath you.
  • Keep it calm and quiet – the sauna is a place to switch off.
  • No creams, oils or perfume before the sauna.
  • The sauna may only be used from the age of 16.
  • A timer switches the sauna on and off automatically – you don’t need to do anything. After your last round, open the air vent (outlet) further so the sauna can dry out, close the door and take your towels with you.

Timing

When it does you the most good

Saunas are good for you at any time – but these moments get the most out of it.

In the evening

The best time for most people: after a day outdoors, finish your last round about 1–2 hours before bed. Your body temperature then drops, which helps you fall asleep.

After activity

After skiing, ski touring, hiking or biking, the heat relaxes tired muscles. Have a drink and a short rest first, then into the sauna.

Regularly

The effect builds up: 1–3 sauna days a week train your body and circulation far better than a single long session.

In the cold season

Especially in autumn and winter, regular saunas help your body get used to changes in temperature.
